Dedicated To The Memory Of Reverdy Lewin Orrell, Jr. (1920 - 2006) |
I've recently come across some small, inexpensive books (abt. $8 each), put out by the Confraternity of the Precious Blood.
I've purchased the first three books listed below. These are rather small in size. They're made to be read a few pages at a time, no more than that. They give you a little lesson, then something to think about, then a prayer.
My Daily Bread by Anthony Paone SJ
My Meditation on the Gospel by John Sullivan
My Way of Life by The Confraternity of the Precious Blood
My Imitation of Christ by Thomas A. Kempis
Liturgy & Laity by Peter Chiara
My Daily Life by Anthony Paone SJ
My Meditations on St. Paul by James Sullivan
My Daily Psalm Book by Fr. Peter Frey (editor)
good information
Posted by: edward at March 3, 2008 10:32 AMI have read through "My Daily Life" 3 times since 1999 and have learned more about myself and those with whom I interact on a daily basis than in any other book I have ever read. I would heartily recommend this book to anyone who wishes to improve himself/herself and learn about the intricasies of human nature. Father Paone has a grasp on this subject far beyond any other author I have ever had the plesure to read and study.
Posted by: Don LaVoie at January 26, 2009 8:14 PMI have owned a copy of My Daily Bread since the 1980's (it was originally published in 1954). I have turned back to it again and again in the intervening years. It walks with the reader through the three paths of contemplation: purification, imitation (commonly known as the illuminative way), and union. Start reading this book at the beginning of Lent.
